Q Factor ! Our price-adjusted rating system

Our rating system:

All supper club participants for a given evening rate the quality of the resturant's dining experience based on three different factors:

  • Food

  • Service

  • Atmosphere.

Individual participants give each factor a rating from 1 to 5.

As a guide, a “1” should be roughly equivalent to the level of quality one would expect from a $10/person dining experience (including all costs except tax & tip). A “5” should be roughly equivalent to the quality of a $50/person dining experience.

Once all participants have given their individual ratings, an average rating for each factor is calculated. A resturant’s Overall Rating is determined from the following:

Overall Rating = (Ave. Food Rating + Ave. Service Rating + Ave. Atmosphere Rating) / 3

This Overall Rating is then modified by a "Q factor" to determine the final Overall Adjusted Rating. The Q factor brings into consideration the value for your money of a resturant’s dining experience and adjusts the Overall Rating accordingly. The Q factor can be a positive or negative number. Positive Qs boost a resturant's Overall Rating. Negative Qs detract from it.

To first calculate the Q, the total price of the meal (not including tax & tip) is divided by the number of participants. This yields an average price per person dollar amount. This number is plugged in to the following formula to determine the Q:

Q Factor = Overall Rating - (Ave. Price per Person) / 10

Finally, to determine the Overall Adjusted Rating for a resturant (what we post in the blog) , the following formula is used:

Overall Adjust Rating = Overall Rating + Q Factor.

it’s just that simple!!
